When designing our primary bathroom, I knew I wanted a place to relax in the evenings after work. I love to take baths and wanted a calm and soothing bathroom design to enjoy. Things like updated lighting, paint colors and thoughtful accessories transform the space.
Bathroom Design Inspiration
I didn’t have a specific image that I based my design on for our primary bath. Pinterest is a great place to find tons of calm and soothing bathroom designs. Style wise, I knew that I wanted a classic, coastal look for this space. Our primary bath was truly a builder grade blank set when I set out designing it.
Primary Bath Design Board
The design board I pulled together for this room features a lot of the items I ended up purchasing for the space. I focused on light colors, earth tones and brushed nickel for the metals.
Selecting Colors for a Calm and Soothing Bathroom
I love light blues and greens for bathrooms. They are peaceful colors and reminiscent of a spa. The color I chose for this bathroom is come sail away by Benjamin Moore. Beyond the light aqua shade in the paint, I focused on white and earth tone accessories.
Lighting and Mirrors
The first lighting I chose in this room was the beaded ceiling fixture that sits over the tub in the last photo. I found it at Home Depot. I love the white beads and it gives off a nice subtle light for the space. Over the sinks and counter, I picked two small white and brushed nickel pendants from Shades of Light. They are out of stock, so I linked to a different retailer. These pendants have a solid shade, so they give off very concentrated light over each of the sinks. They work well for the space.
We tore out the builder grade mirror and hung two beaded brushed nickel framed mirrors I had as well. Updating lighting and mirrors alone do tons to update builder grade baths to more custom spaces.
Decor for a Calm and Soothing Bathroom
I chose a lot of accessories for this space to complete the calm and soothing look I was going for. The white towels are from Frontgate and I’d highly recommend them (I’m not being paid to say this). The stool next to the stub is Serena & Lily. It is quite tippy, so wouldn’t actually recommend using it beyond stacking towels or placing a cup on it. The rug is great. It’s very soft underfoot and washes up really well in the laundry. The soap pumps are made from recycled glass and when empty, the shade is very close to the walls. There was a towel bar over the tub that we tore our and replaced with letter hooks from Amazon (detail below).
The lemon tree print in our little toilet room if from this shop on Etsy. I don’t recall where the woven tissue box cover is from, but this one looks nice.
