Our primary bedroom in our previous home was quite formal. In this house, I knew that I wanted a more casual look and feel, but still wanted to utilize a fair amount of furniture from our last home. This blue and coral bedroom design accomplishes just that.
Design Inspiration
For this room, I started with a strong inspirational image. I found it on Pinterest and just love the contrast of the blue and coral, the strong patterns on the bed and the simple, yet impactful accessories on the nightstand.

Design Plan
Once I had my inspiration image in hand, I created the design plan below. I had to find a compromise between copying the room as it’s shown in the picture and mixing and matching new items with the existing items I already had and wanted to put to use in this room. I I knew my room wouldn’t look exactly like the inspirational image in this case.

Blue and Coral Bedroom Color Palette
This blue and coral bedroom design started with the basic color palette of blue and coral. I hadn’t ever considered it as a color combination for my home until I found my inspiration image on Pinterest. However, like my Modern Coastal Pink and Green Sitting Room Design that features pink and green in the space, blue and coral are complementary colors to each other on the color wheel, which always makes for an impactful design.

Mixing Old and New Furniture
There were a handful of existing furniture pieces I wanted to utilize from our primary bedroom in our new home. This list includes:
Dark wood nightstands – I got these from a furniture store, but here’s a similar option.
Dark gray loveseat – I had this custom made over a decade ago, but here’s a similar option.
Silver side table – I believe I got this at Home Goods. This isn’t exactly the same, but has a similar shape.
The items that I knew I wanted to purchase new were:
The light blue upholstered bed frame – I got this from One King’s Lane. This is not the same shape, but is a similar color.
The upholstered fringe ottomans – Here’s a similar option.

Selecting Lighting
This bedroom is very bright with the two windows framing the bed, but I still like to have soft, warm light in the evenings. Lighting for this room consists of the two silver lamps from our previous home for reading, the wood beaded overhead chandelier (here’s a similar option) and a thin, black floor lamp (similar, but not exact option) by the dark gray loveseat for task lighting.
Blue and Coral Bedroom Linens
The bed linens in this room are from a mix of places. The gray and white strip Euro shams are from Pottery Barn. The white sheets on the bed are from Lands End. The coral shams are from Goodwill. I think the stripe pillow is from Home Goods and I couldn’t find the exact quilt, but here’s a similar option. I chose to stick with simple, geometric stripes on all of the linens, but may introduce a floral print in the future.

Across from the bed is the dark gray loveseat. I have two light blue stripe throw pillows and once pillow with a floral and bird motif on it. All pillow covers are from Etsy. The coral blanket is a Matouk throw. This space doesn’t get a ton of use, other than the occasional child sleeping on it.
Blue and Coral Bedroom Design Decor
I kept decor to a minimal in this room. The beach wall art is from Home Goods and the three sailboat prints above our bed are from Goodwill. The faux fiddle leaf fig tree is from JoAnn Fabrics and I can’t remember where I got the basket it’s in.

We also have a giant leaning wall mirror to the left side of the bed. It is oversized and has a nice beveled edge to it. It was in our last house and was a total pain to move, but I’m so glad we went through the trouble of moving it because I love how it looks.
