Step into our colorful laundry room makeover. Coral paint and citrusy prints in this space make chores fresh and fun.

Our laundry room in this house is small and sufficient. I admire the designer laundry rooms on Pinterest and in magazines and frequently wonder the same thing about the spaces. What is hiding in all of that elaborate cabinetry? For us, doing laundry requires laundry soap and stain remover, so elaborate cabinetry was never going to be something I invested in for this space. The room had a long wire shelf hung over the machines that I removed to make room for art. I get into all the design details below!

Makeover Inspiration
My original inspiration for our laundry room was actually a closet design! I just love the coral walls in the image below. This picture was the jumping off point for my laundry room.

Laundry Room Design Plan
I didn’t need to make a lot of design choices in our laundry room. Paint, art, lighting and some storage was it. Overall, I wanted to keep the actual items in the room to a minimum, but have the design components make it feel very maximalist. I feel like I was successful in this!
This space was also nice to makeover because there wasn’t any debate between what to keep and what to replace. Everything would be new, because I didn’t have any existing art or storage to use.

Laundry Room Makeover Walls
The walls of this space were painted Coral Essence by Benjamin Moore. As I mentioned above, there was a basic white wire shelf hung above the machines that I removed before we painted. As we were planning paint colors for the whole house, I asked my husband his thoughts on painting the laundry room the pinkish coral sample I had. He said go for it! I was super excited about it.

Choosing Lighting
The lighting in this space almost blends in with the white ceiling, in a good way. This room is on the smaller side, so I picked a white fixture to blend in so we wouldn’t be frequently looking up at the ceiling. The white beaded fixture is from Amazon.

Wall Decor
This wall art is my favorite thing in this room along with the paint color. The paint itself can sometimes feel like the inside of a grapefruit, so I figured a series of citrus portraits would be perfect. I got these on Etsy and they’re actually a set of six. I just picked the three prints that I thought went best together. The frames are white frames that I had and just spray painted gold.

Laundry Room Makeover Storage
While I knew I never wanted to have a wall of cabinets in this room, I did know I’d need storage for soap and stain remover. I also wanted a laundry basket in the laundry room for kids clothes. The kids are now super well trained and I don’t find a lot of random clothes laying around, which I appreciate! The basket on the washer is a Goodwill find and the scalloped basket on the floor for clothes is from Home Goods.

From a storage perspective, it’s also important to note that I wanted flat and hanging drying space. I decided to get a folding drying rack. I have the hanging drying in our guest room closet and set up the drying rack in front of it. Due to the moisture in the air in Florida, I put a fan on the damp clothes as they dry so they don’t get stinky.
