Tour our modern, coastal guest room decor. Light green paint, dark green accessories and tropical accents create a serene green guest room.

I’ve mentioned this in previous posts, but my favorite color combination is pink and green. For our guest room, I leaned heavily into shades of green with just a touch or two of pink. This is a spacious room, so we have a large California king bed, a bench at the foot of it and space for leaning mirror and accent tree in the corner. I call this room “the hotel” because on the occasion of a sick kid or spouse, I sleep in here and it feels like a hotel!
Design Inspiration
The inspiration for this space actually started off more green than it ended up. The image below as a jumping off point for what the space could be. I especially loved the coastal bedroom furniture. I did take liberties to evolve the color palette and style, which I get into below.

Design Plan & Color Palette
The design board I created for this space turned out to be very true to the actual design. A few things I focused on in this space while I designed it were: the right balance of green and pink, ensuring a few tropical accents were included (but not too many to make it cheesy), and a blend of light and dark colors/wood tones for contrast. The wall color I chose for this room, Come Sail Away by Benjamin Moore. It’s the same color I used in our entryway.

Guest Room Decor Furniture Choices
For this room, I only had one piece of furniture that I was planning to reuse and that was the dark wood bed frame. Although not your typical coastal style, my hope was with the right amount of light wood tone accessories and tropical linens/wall art, I’d be able to work the dark wood in with a result I like.
I purchased three furniture items total for the guest room. The two round, light wood side tables and the dark green storage bench. The items I linked are slightly different than what I purchased. The green storage bench is also a similar shade to the ottomans in my sitting room.

Simple Lighting
I kept the lighting for this room very simple! An overhead light for the full room and a lamp on each side table for reading light. The overhead light is originally from Lowe’s but no longer online. Here’s a similar version. The bedside lamps actually used to sit on a buffet cabinet in our old house. They have a really skinny crystal base that I love. The lampshades have a bit of sparkle to them as well!
Bed Linens & Curtains
I always prefer to do mix-and-match bedding, I find bed in a bag to be too matchy-matchy. I buy the same bedsheets for all the beds in our home so that changing sheets/laundering is easier. They are an investment, but well worth it. We’ve had them for five years with no signs of wear yet. The white quilt on this bed is really great. It’s 100% cotton, a little stiff when new, but softens up nicely in the wash.
For the additional pillows on the bed, I wanted to bring in a coral pink shade to add some color. The Euro shams are from Macy’s, but no longer available. The tassel throw pillow is also no longer available, but here’s a similar version from Wayfair. The standard sham and duvet are from Pottery Barn, however, I got the set at Goodwill for $19. I can’t call a room complete without at least one thrifted find!
I put these simple white cotton/linen blend curtains in a couple rooms in our here. They provide a really nice clean and simple backdrop to a room.

Guest Room Decor
I don’t have a lot of small decor pieces in our home anymore after having children, and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever bring them back. In this room, I have two faux topiaries on the side tables next to the bed and one faux fiddle leaf fig tree at the foot of the bed next to a mirror. The topiaries are from Home Goods, my favorite place to get small decor items. The tree is from JoAnn Fabrics, but no longer available. Here’s a similar one. The tree sits in a gold bucket with a lions head on it that I scored at Goodwill for $5.
The Moroccan full length mirror is from At Home. It’s no longer available, they do have similar ones though. I like of the look of it leaning against the wall, so probably won’t ever hang it.

Tropical Wall Art Guest Room Decor
I have a second mirror in this room, that is hung on the wall, above the bed. The small round mirror is accented with a rattan design that ties in with the coastal feel of the room. I can’t remember where I got it, but Hobby Lobby has a similar one.
On one side of the bed, I hung a set of six bird prints. They are one of my favorite things in the room because of the vibrant colors. I can’t find the original frames, but here’s a similar one.

At the foot of the bed, next to the closet, I have two sculptured wall panels. These were a set from Goodwill for $10. They are made of a dark brown faux wood material and I spray painted them white. I like how they turned out and add texture to the space.
